As 2017 draws to a close I look back on an eventful year for me that includes swapping and shooting film with Mia BloomBecker in the USA, becoming an uncle, capturing the Liverpool Pride festival for Barclays Spectrum, exploring macro photography and long (ish) exposure photography. However, the biggest moment of the year was buying my first home with my girlfriend. It was stressful at times, but totally worth it...especially as I now have room for a big printer!
It's been a busy and exciting year, and I'm looking forward to sharing new work to you all. In the meantime here are some highlights from a year of big moments mixed with smaller details...
January - 2017 kicked off with a film-swap with Mia BloomBecker...
...this involved both of us shooting on the same rolls of film...
...I shot in Liverpool in colour...

...and London in colour. Mia shot in Santa Cruz for all rolls.
March - this year I found myself honing in on details. I took this just before heading out...

An exciting addition to my family - my sister had a baby boy named Lucas, making me an Uncle for the first time...
...I visited a few days after he was born...
...and again a few months later. He's a happy and relaxed baby - my sister and her partner are doing a great job with him! I'm enjoying seeing him grow up.
May - I wanted to explore macro photography this year. I've come back to it here and there throughout the year...
...from inside my Mum's potting shed...
...to my girlfriend's plants...
...and found shells. I've enjoyed exploring details on a smaller scale.
Monthly Digital Splash competitions gave me themes to focus on to go out and photograph - 'Street' was the theme when I saw this man on his phone in front of an outdoor photography exhibition...
...it was captured here by the Hilton Hotel in Liverpool.
I entered a photo competition held at St.Bridgets' Church in Wavertree...
...the theme was 'Liverpool - One Place, One People'...
...this photo of mine from the Brazilica parade was a winner!
June - I photographed artwork by Henry Finney, a friend from my University days...
...while I was there I captured some details in his studio space...
July - Dinorwig Quarry, North Wales (with my Mum).
A swan kept a watchful eye on me in Eirias Park, Colwyn Bay.
I was lucky to see the process behind fabric printing. It's always a treat to see your work in print and to learn about processes like this.
I captured the Liverpool Pride event for Barclays Spectrum. I felt it was the best I had captured an event as I was happy with the photos I got of this fun and welcoming event.
September - back to Digital Splash competitions. This one of the Echo Arena was an entry for the 'Architecture' theme.

October - after attending the Digital Splash photo show in Liverpool I went away inspired and took this photo on my way home.
I was set a 7 Day Black & White challenge by a friend on Facebook - it was a welcomed distraction from house-moving business...
...I had to post one photo a day over seven days in black & white, with no caption to explain the photos. I enjoyed a bit of abstraction and mystery in this challenge.
November - one of the biggest events of the year was buying a house. I took this a few days after moving in - enjoying the morning sunlight in our dining room was a nice little moment for me.
A fallen tree in Sefton Park. Spotted during an evening walk...

A return to the Lake District. I remembered my tripod this year, so I wanted to shoot long exposures...
...which give you a different way of seeing the world around you.
