Lately, I’ve been wanting to get back to sharing various series of photos that I’ve taken in the past few years on this blog, firstly starting with my last two trips to the Lake District in 2024 and ‘25.
For both years I found myself visiting caves and quarries, with trees also being a subject I honed in on, so I decided to combine both years into one blog post. Alongside these photos are some extra details I spotted on walks to the caves and other places, plus a few from Grey Crag in Grasmere. Enjoy!
(Special thanks to Alex Wilkinson for the location of Hodge Close Quarry. I learned about this location from one of her review videos for Wilkinson Cameras, and she gave me extra information about it.)
The rainbow after the rain.
Fallen tree pulled up the ground around it…
…giving an unusual view of the roots.
Overlooking Grasmere on the way up to Grey Crag.
The descent (with mum in the middle).
Carved initials on a frosty ledge at Skelwith Bridge.
Hodge Close Quarry
Finding my way down to and approaching the entrance of the cave at Hodge Close Quarry.
Metalwork remains from the active days of the quarry.
Detail underfoot on the way to Rydal Cave.
Rydal Cave
Detail from a corner edge of a rock catching the straying light.
Trees catching the light of the setting sun.
Thanks for taking a look at these photos. I’ve just returned from my ‘26 visit to the Lakes, hopefully I’ll share those with you soon - watch this space!
